A 37-year-old former Hastings resident, now with no permanent address, faces charges of failure to register as a predatory offender, and fugitive from justice following his Dec. 30 arrest at a residence in Hastings.

Fire destroys townhome, damages others


The apparent cause of the Dec. 23 fire in a two-story townhouse building on the 400 block of Whispering Lane in Hastings was heat from a chimney flue in the gas stove (fireplace) in the lower level of the 407 unit, said Hastings Assistant Fire Chief/Fire Marshal John Townsend.

Editorial: Two steps forward, one step back in 2008


One year ago, we wrote in this very space how important it would be to move up the timeframe for the replacement of the Hastings bridge.
Consider that test passed. It appears construction on the new bridge could begin within 18 months from now. That was great news for 2008.
