Early anterless firearms deer season open Oct. 10; blaze orange required

Hunters in 30 of Minnesota’s deer areas will have the opportunity to help control deer populations by taking an antlerless deer during an early hunt on Oct. 11-12, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
The early antlerless firearms season was first conducted in 2005. It is designed to help reduce deer populations in areas that are significantly above goal and where current intensive management strategies have not been effective in lowering deer populations.

Safe shooters are never sorry

Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) conservation officers (CO) found themselves looking for cover during the recent moose and waterfowl openers, and remind hunters to always follow safe firearm discharge procedures.
While pulling up to check some moose hunters, CO Darin Fagerman of Grand Marais came across a couple of hunters with angry looks on their faces and another who looked a bit confused. One of the men explained to the CO that the confused-looking man had an accidental discharge of his rifle just as the CO pulled up.

Jacob Brusehaver rushed for three scores, while Jaedon Scott and Brad Muckenhirn added one touchdown each.
A win over winless Red Wing Wednesday would secure the No. 2 seed in Section 2AAAA.

My two cents on Shakopee

Take this for what it is, a sports guy giving his reactions to one match.
Is Shakopee a good team? Yes. Are they the best "team" in state? No. Do they have the best player in the state? Yes. Does this mean they deserve the No. 1 ranking? As long as Ashley Wittman can carry them, yes.
The thing that made Shakopee so devastating last year is that when you tried to stop the University of MN recruit, the girl on the other side, Maggie Geske, beat you. Those two led that team to a state title. Without Geske, the Sabers are beatable.
